the boy came late in the evening
the boy came late in the evening / tired after his journey and the confusion of finding his brother in such a noisome place / as he was blind he could not travel alone / delivered by a group of goatherds / on arrival the brothers greeted each other with great tenderness / immediately immersed in a detailed excursion of the studio / touched almost everything as they moved about the room / goatherds remain respectfully in a group just inside the door / they wore large coats of goatskin / boots and clothes heavily soiled from the journey / artist thanked them / asked if they intended to remain some time in the city / and if so did they have a place to stay / they thanked him / saying that everything had been taken care of and that they would return in a few days to escort the boy back to the mountains / they could not permit him to neglect his duties for long / as they were leaving a thought suddenly struck the old man / what use could the boy possibly be as a goatherd save as an ornamental one? / closing the door he turned to watch the conduct of the twins
